How I imagine this went down:
Buck Showalter: Hey Peter, I need to ask you something.
Peter Angelos: Yes, Buck?
Buck Showalter: Well, I know you said if I did real good with the team last year that you might raise my allowance, and I know we didn’t do real good, but gosh, we sure worked hard and—
Peter Angelos: Out with it.
Buck Showalter: Well, I dunno, I was wondering if you could, maybe, lend me the money for a Prince Fielder?
Peter Angelos: You know how I feel about these things, Buck. Life doesn’t just hand you things.
Buck Showalter: I know! And I promise I’ll work extra hard and I’ll mow the outfield and everything! It’s just, there’s only one Prince Fielder so we need to get him now if we’re ever going to get him.
Peter Angelos: I’m sorry, Buck. But you need to learn the importance of a hard-earned dollar.
Buck Showalter: But!
Peter Angelos: Now get out there and do your damndest, huh?
Buck Showalter: You’re the worst. I hate you!
Peter Angelos: Don’t say things you don’t mean, Buck. And on your way out, be sure to send the caviar chef in? That’s a good lad.
Well that would make the AL East more competitive and fun to watch than any other division in the American League as well the National League
